What is pilates?

Pilates is a form of low-impact exercise emphasizing proper postural alignment through balanced development of muscular strength and flexibility. According to founder Joseph Pilates, the Pilates Method is a “complete coordination of body, mind, and spirit.”’ Pilates is hardcore but, low-impact making it accessible for everybody’s goals and needs.

What are the benefits of pilates?

Everyone can do and benefit from pilates! Whether you’re a novice, an athlete, active ager or are dealing with an injury. And YES even men can do and benefit from pilates-(it was developed by a man)!

Pilates is designed not only to focus on core strength and flexibility but to train the body as an integrated whole. This means your body and your mind are getting a killer workout.

Here are just a few benefits you’ll see and feel:

  • Improved balance and posture

  • Increased flexibility and range of motion in joints

Are there any age restrictions?

Minimum age to attend is 16. Parental consent for both the waiver and contract is required for anyone under the age of 18 to attend.

Medical concerns & Pregnancy:

Studio Pilates Nashville may decline entry to a class because of injury and/or any medical concerns including pregnancy. We may suggest booking a private session and allowing one of our instructors to give you an evaluation before participating in classes to see if classes or private session are appropriate to ensure your safety before participating.

What do I wear & how do I prepare for my first class?

-We recommend form fitting athletic wear so our instructors can see your form. We do not require grip socks but feel free to bring your own if you prefer to wear them.

-Bring a water & towel. We have water fountains and sell Defiance Fuel water bottles.

- We also have 2 changing rooms, no showers.

-Arrive 10 minutes before class so we can check you in, show you the studio, and go over anything you need us to know about your body.

How do I signup? Should I signup in advance?

You can signup on MindBody. Once you make a Mindbody account, you can signup for our group classes.

We strongly encourage to signup ahead of time, as class sizes are limited. Walk-ins are welcome, space permitting.

I’m on the waitlist, now what?

- If a class is full, you may add yourself to the waitlist. If a spot opens up, you will receive an email or text notification letting you know you that you have been added to the class.

- You must be “opted-in” for email and / or text notifications in MindBody in order to receive waitlist notifications.

- If you are on the waitlist and are no longer able to attend, we ask that you remove yourself as you will be responsible for the class if you should be added.

I’m new to pilates, where should I start?

We recommend taking a beginner class or private depending on your availability or preference. If you have injuries or are still unsure where to start, reach out to us! We are always happy to answer any questions or concerns. Reach out to us at: hello@studiopilatesnashville.com

What if I need to cancel?

No problem! If you need to cancel your reservation, please cancel as soon as possible. Any cancellations made less than 12 hours before the start of class will forfeit the class credit from your specific membership or pricing option. Unlimited members will incur a $20 late cancel fee. For private sessions, the full amount of the private session will be billed to your account or a pricing option will be deducted from your package.

Is pilates safe during pregnancy?

Yes, pilates is safe during pregnancy but, please consult with your doctor before attending.

Pilates is low impact and can be easily modified by our knowledgeable instructors to keep you safe during your workout. Pilates will effectively strengthen and support your body throughout your pregnancy and after.
